Thursday was a day to really thank God for - i was finally handed my confirmation letter, and that, effectively ended my probation period. Of course, this means that my salary won't stay stagnant any longer, hooray!Anyway, i havent posted up a picture of any of my nieces or nephew in a very long time; so as an auntie of 3 small kids who are rapidly growing (and changing), here's a small montage of them: Elliot! Davina! They are all so cute hor.. It's too bad that i've been coming home late and waking up too early to see all of them awake most of the time. This means, i shall chiong now and work hard as a non-mother, but be a homemaker next time so that i won't miss a single moment with my own kids in future. Unless nathan wants to do the honours next time and be the househusband instead. :p We finally managed to go to the singapore flyer before my tickets expired :) It was too cloudy to get really good pictures though.
It sucks that my precious camera is on a 17 day jaunt to europe with my friend; it's going to visit even more countries than i have! Hopefully it comes back safely unharmed and in one piece.

So i was sitting on the train home, triumphantly leaving office early for once at 7pm, for once in a very very long time getting a seat on both rides to and from work, and i had a tragic realisation: it's almost going to be a year since i started work! And i had this sudden urge to just fling off everything, take a day's leave (ok or maybe half a day out of my miserable pittance of leave), go back to esplanade library, buy a latte, plonk myself down on one of the comfy sofas there, fish out my book (national geographic magazines are the only serious stuff i read nowadays - to keep the geog major in me alive) and start reading the day away with the singapore river glistening in the afternoon sun. There are so many things i miss as a student; needing to wake up at 6am every weekday morning even when you don't feel like doing so, needing to drag yourself to work sometimes even when you don't feel like, going back early or having the freedom to go anywhere you want while the afternoon sun is still high up in the sky, and having impossibly free days where you can just fling all schoolwork aside and not have to care about what tomorrow brings. Pardon me as i go into a tirade once every few months. Don't get me wrong, there are some aspects of my job that i do love, and i have a really good boss now who cannot possibly be any better, but still....i miss attending my geography lectures and learning something new every week. Which is why i live for the national geographic every month now. I'm not ruling out teaching as a career; i'm just waiting for my friends around who have opted to go into teaching (and like 90% are going to be teachers) to give me good feedback before deciding if i should make a mid-career switch in future. We'll see. And for now i hope that my restlessness wears off, the weeks go on, i save up more money, go UK happily, come back sadly, save up more money, and start the cycle again. Life is good, in a weird sort of way. And, oh, you know your soon-to-be-four year old niece has grown up when she starts talking in mandarin which sounds way, way better than yours.
